We recently attended the LIBER 2022 conference on the 6th-8th of July in Odense, Denmark. It was great catching up with many of our partners there, including Sofie Wennström from Stockholm University Press! Here are a few notes:
All of the commercial publishers in attendance were heavily promoting their Open Access offerings, which shows how important this is for their image in the market now.
Several themes were repeated throughout the conference: the need for libraries to engage with researchers in open science (e.g. through repositories to publish outputs such as data), the importance of building open communities, the need to develop library funding models for OA, and whether existing systems provide enough long-term preservation.
Another key topic was whether libraries can play more of a role in supporting research assessment. This is something we at Ubiquity are interested in investigating through some EU-funded work in 2023, and we will no doubt be reaching out to members of the community for feedback and involvement in this.
So overall this was a successful and interesting event, and we can now take a break until conferences resume after summer!
